Step 1: Collect Documents

    •  Application Form, fully completed.
      • Please Note: By clicking on the application link you’ll be taken to the Chinese consulate’s application form, on the right side of the page click on “North America” and Choose “Washington DC”Follow the prompts, answer all questions, and upload your photo; n the final page, you will upload additional documents, driver’s license, and a copy of your passport, travel itinerary etc…
        • After submission, the consulate typically responds within a few days with approval or questions. If approved, you will be asked to submit your passport, the printed confirmation page with barcode, and one completed A1 Passport order form. We will schedule the consulate appointment and submit your passport for processing.

Proof of Travel

You may be asked to upload a copy of your round trip ticket or e-ticket, itinerary, of letter from a travel agency that confirms your entry and exit from mainland China. The document needs to show the applicants name, date of arrival and departure, and whether they are going by flight or cruise.

Proof of Stay

    • If you are staying in a hotel, provide copies of hotel confirmation (if staying in multiple hotels you must provide all confirmations.) Alternatively, you may provide confirmation from a Chinese tour operator.

Invitation Letter (Friend/Family visit)

    • If you are staying with a friend or relative provide a signed letter from the host, along with their Chinese ID. (If you are a spouse or sibling of someone on a business trip the host company in China will provide a letter of invitation on your behalf.) Chinese personal invitation

Letter of employment

The Chinese consulate would sometimes ask for a company letter confirming that your trip is solely for tourism and will not involve any business activities related to your place of work. It would be a good idea to have this letter prepared ahead of time to avoid any delays. Your letter must be printed on your company’s stationery and signed by the employer. Your letter would need to include the following information: Job title, Job description, Purpose of travel.

Proof of residence

A clear copy of your driver license, or state issued ID. alternatively you may submit an official issued document showing your name and home address. Please note that Chinese consulate is jurisdictional we can process visas for the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC.

      • Important: If you have been previously issued a Chinese visa stamped in your old passport, you’ll need to submit a copy of that passport along with the visa issued in that passport and if the previous visa is still valid, you’ll need to submit the original passport so the visa can be cancelled by the Chinese consulate

Additional Requirements

  • Applicants whose former nationality was Chinese must submit their original Chinese passport or old visa. If the applicant has acquired a new US passport and there is a Chinese visa in the old passport, submit the old US passport.
  • Non U.S. Passport holders must upload image of their U.S. Green Card and may be required to submit a copy or you may be required to upload and submit a photocopy of current visa showing legal status in the USA.
  • The Chinese consulate may require former citizens of the following countries who have become naturalized in the USA to appear in person for an interview:Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Chad, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, France, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Kenya, Libya, Lebanon, Mali, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, South Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Yemen.

    previous visits to Turkey, Kazakhstan or Pakistan

    If you have visited any of the above countries, you’ll need to submit a signed statement stating the exact dates of travel into and out of those countries and the purpose of your trip; your dates of travel must be verifiable with the entry/exit stamps in your passport.

Company Letter / Invitation Letter

    • A Business Letter AND a letter of invitation from China (Sample)
    • The business letter must be typed on the company’s stationery stating the following:
      • Addressed to “Embassy of China, Visa Section, Washington D.C.”
      • The applicant’s job title
      • Length of employment
      • A brief description of job duties
      • The type of business expected to perform in China
      • Purpose and date of travel and duration of stay.
      • Financial responsibility for the applicant as well as return transportation to U.S. (if that applies)
      • This letter must be signed by a superior within your company other than the applicant
